Primary spinal malignant melanoma of spinal cord and conus medullaris.
Primary malignant melanoma of the central nervous system is an extremely rare neoplasm and accounts for approximately 1% of all melanoma cases. The occurrence of this lesion in the spinal cord is even rarer.1-3 Magnetic resonance imaging features of melanoma are determinated by the degree of pigment melanin and the presence of acute or chronic hemorrhage and can be easily misdiagnosed with othe...
متن کاملSpinal intramedullary cysticercosis of the conus medullaris.
Neurocysticercosis is the most common central nervous system (CNS) parasitic disease worldwide, but spinal cysticercal infection is relatively rare, especially in the United States. Because of increased immigration to the United States from endemic areas, the incidence of neurocysticercosis has risen, especially in California, Texas, Arizona, and other southwestern states, but not in Wisconsin....
متن کاملStrategy in the Surgical Treatment of Primary Spinal Tumors
Primary spine tumors are rare, accounting for only 4% of all tumors of the spine. A minority of the more common primary benign lesions will require surgical treatment, and most amenable malignant lesions will proceed to attempted resection. The rarity of malignant primary lesions has resulted in a paucity of historical data regarding optimal surgical and adjuvant treatment and, although we now ...

Meningeal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare tumor and is different from fibroblastic meningiomas (FM) and hemangiopericytoma (HPC). SFTs account for 0.09% of all meningeal tumors.[1-3] Compared to meningiomas the SFTs show a predilection for the posterior fossa and spine.[1,2] Most of these tumors are benign, however, local recurrence have been reported.[3] Gengler and Guillou[4] in a revi...
متن کاملSchwannoma of the conus medullaris.
We report a rare case of schwannoma of the conus medullaris. A 38-year-old female presented with pain and numbness in her lower limbs. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a heterogenous tumour of the conus medullaris. A subtotal resection was performed and histology confirmed schwannoma. The literature regarding these rare tumours, and their cell of origin, is reviewed.
